12월 3일 비상계엄 선포 이후 탄핵을 맞은 윤석열 대통령 탄핵사태에 대해 김대중재단 미주위원회가 “서로 죽이는 상극의 정치에서 서로 살리는 상생의 정치를 구현”해야 한다고 강조했다.

김대중재단 미주위원회는 17일(화) 발표한 성명에서 “전세계를 놀라게한 무도한 계엄선포였지만 대한민국 국민과 의회는 빠른 시일 내에 민주주의를 회복하는 놀라운 저력을 보여줬다”면서 “200만 미주 동포들은 힘찬 격려의 박수를 보낸다”며 한국 국민들의 높은 시민의식과 민주주의 수호를 위한 결집을 응원했다.

미주위원회는 탄핵정국이라는 한국의 현실에 대해 “정치적 불행이 계속하여 반복되는지에 대한 근본적인 원인을 찾아 다시는 이러한 일이 되풀이 되지 않도록 대한민국 정치인과 국민들 모두가 지혜를 모아야 한다”고 조언하며 평화와 화합의 정치로 민주주의 수호를 향한 김대중 정신에 대해 언급했다.

“고 김대중 대통령은 과거 군사독재하에서 민주주의의 수호를 위해 온갖 고초를 견디어 내고 당선 후에는 용서와 화해의 정치를 통해 한반도 평화와 민족 화해, 그리고 한미동맹을 비롯 4대 강국과 실용적 외교를 펼친” 김대중 대통령의 업적을 상기한 김대중재단 미주위원회는 “서로 죽이는 상극의 정치가 아닌 서로 살리는 상생의 정치로 남북관계와 국제관게에 있어서 김대중 대통령의 민족화해와 실용적 외교 정신을 구현하길 바란다”고 강조했다.

대한민국 국회는 윤석열 대통령의 계엄선포 11일 만에 윤석열 대통령을 탄핵하였다. 전 세계를 놀라게 한 무도한
계엄선포였지만 대한민국 국민과 의회는 빠른 시일 내에 민주주의를 회복하는 놀라운 저력을 보여주었음에 200만
미주동포들은 힘찬 격려의 박수를 보낸다.
이번 사태를 계기로 대한민국에 왜 이러한 정치적 불행이 계속하여 반복되는지에 대한 근본적인 원인을 찾아 다시는
이러한 일이 되풀이되지 않도록 대한민국 정치인과 국민들 모두가 지혜를 모아야겠다.
고 김대중 대통령은 과거 군사독재하에서 민주주의의 수호를 위해 온갖 고초를 견디어 내고 당선 후에는 용서와 화해의
정치를 펴셨으며 한반도 평화와 민족 화해, 그리고 한미동맹을 비롯 4대 강국과 실용적 외교를 펼치신 분이다. 이번

Statement by the Kim Dae-jung Foundation North America Committee on the Impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol
The National Assembly of the Republic of Korea impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol just 11 days after his declaration of martial
law. Though this ruthless declaration of martial law shocked the entire world, the people and legislature of South Korea

demonstrated extraordinary strength and resolve in restoring democracy in such a short time. For this, the two million Korean
diaspora in North America extend a heartfelt round of applause in encouragement and support.
This incident should serve as an opportunity for deep reflection. South Korea’s leaders and citizens must address the
fundamental causes of such recurring political misfortunes and come together with wisdom to ensure that such tragedies
never happen again.
The late President Kim Dae-jung endured immense suffering under past military dictatorships to defend democracy. During his
presidency, he implemented a politics of forgiveness and reconciliation, promoted peace on the Korean Peninsula and national
harmony, and pursued pragmatic diplomacy with the four major powers, including strengthening the Korea-U.S. alliance.
We hope that this impeachment will mark a turning point for South Korean politicians to move away from destructive,
antagonistic politics and instead adopt a cooperative, life-affirming approach to governance. In inter-Korean and international
relations, we also hope to see the spirit of President Kim Dae-jung’s reconciliation
