The North Texas Korean Chamber of Commerce (President Shin Dong-heon) has announced its support for Interim Dallas Police Chief Michael Igo to be appointed as the permanent Chief of Police.
On Thursday, the 6th, the Chamber personally delivered a letter expressing this support to Chief Igo during a visit to the Dallas Police Department. During the meeting, they also discussed strengthening the safety of Korean business districts.
In addition to the letter of support, the Chamber expressed gratitude for Chief Igo’s attendance at President Shin Dong-heon’s inauguration ceremony. The Chamber acknowledged the longstanding relationship with the Dallas Police Department and emphasized that they have received significant support thanks to Chief Igo’s assistance. In the letter, they stated, “We sincerely hope that Michael Igo will be appointed as the next Chief of the Dallas Police Department.”The same letter was also sent to six Dallas City Council members, including Councilman Omar Narvaez.
At the Chamber’s inauguration ceremony on Saturday, the 1st, Chief Igo praised the role of North Texas Korean business leaders, stating, “The North Texas Korean business community demonstrates outstanding leadership in fostering economic growth and cultural exchange.” He also reaffirmed his commitment to working together to create a safer and more inclusive community.
Top Leadership of the Dallas Police Department

The Dallas Police Department, founded in 1881, is the ninth-largest law enforcement agency in the United States. Alongside Houston, it has one of the largest police forces in Texas, operating seven substations in addition to its headquarters.
Interim Chief Michael Igo, who aspires to make Dallas one of the safest cities in the nation, is a veteran with 33 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career in 1991 as a patrol officer in the southeastern part of Dallas and has gained extensive hands-on experience across multiple divisions within the department.
Chief Igo has completed leadership programs at Texas A&M University’s Leadership Command College, the FBI Command College, the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), and the Caruth Police Institute.Throughout his career, he has held leadership roles in various divisions, including Communications, Planning Unit, Crime Watch Executive Board, Patrol Division Watch Commander, Narcotics Division, Crime Suppression Unit, Major Crimes Unit, Property Crimes Task Force, and Internal Affairs Division.
In 2021, Chief Igo was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police, followed by Assistant Chief of Police in 2022. In 2024, he advanced to Executive Assistant Chief of Police, where he oversaw the Tactical and Special Operations Bureau, Community Operations Bureau, and the Investigative Bureau.
With his extensive experience and leadership, Chief Igo is seen as a strong candidate for the permanent position of Dallas Police Chief. The North Texas Korean Chamber of Commerce hopes that his leadership will further enhance the safety and security of Korean businesses in the region.
